Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

A gentle, nervous system-based approach to help you feel more calm,
connected, and at ease in your body.

Available vittually across Washington State.

You might notice feeling on edge, overwhelmed, shut down, or stuck in patterns that are hard to shift—no matter how much you understand things logically.

At times, your body may not feel safe, even when you know you are.

SSP is a different kind of support—it works with your nervous system directly, helping your body begin to experience more safety, regulation, and ease.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a listening-based intervention designed to support your nervous system using specially filtered music.

It’s rooted in our understanding of how the body responds to safety, stress, and connection—and works by gently helping your system shift out of survival states and into a more regulated, safe place.

When your nervous system doesn't feel settled, everything can feel harder.

What is SSP?

You don't have to talk through everything for your system to begin to shift.

How SSP Can Help

SSP supports your nervous system in ways that can impact both how you feel internally and how you experience the world around you.

  • Clients often notice:

  • Feeling calmer and less reactive

  • Greater emotional regulation

  • Increased sense of safety in the body

  • Improved ability to connect with others

  • Less overwhelm or shutdown

  • Better focus and clarity

What to expect

SSP begins with preparation and support. In our initial sessions,we focus on getting to know your nervous system, identifying patterns of regulation and dysregulation, and making sure the process is paced in a way that feels supportive.

From there, listening often happens on your own time, with daily therapist check-ins to provide guidance, monitor how your system is responding, and make adjustments as needed.

Listening is tailored to your capacity. Although SSP can involve up to 30 minutes of listening in a day, it does not have to happen all at once. For many people, it works best in much smaller pieces, depending on what their nervous system can comfortably handle. For some clients, that may mean starting with only a few minutes at a time.

What this means for you

  • We begin by understanding your nervous system before starting

  • The process is guided and supported—not something you’re left to do alone

  • Listening is adjusted based on how your system responds

  • Daily check-ins help provide support, monitoring, and course correction

  • The focus is on safety, regulation, and steady progress—not pushing through

Who is SSP for?

SSP can be helpful if you're experiencing:

  • Anxiety or chronic stress

  • Trauma-related symptoms

  • Feeling stuck in fight, flight, or shutdown

  • Sensory sensitivity or overwhelm

  • Difficulty feeling safe, present, or connected

It can also be a supportive addition to therapy, helping your system become more receptive to other types of work.
